IDEAs is organising
a work shop on 'Liberalisation, Macroeconomic Policy and development options
in Asia' in collaboration with the MAIDS program, run by the Faculty of
Political Science at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok from the 25th Sept
to 1st Oct, 2004, to be held In Bangkok and Manila.
The workshop is an intensive program covering theoretical
and policy issues in the current international context.
The aim of the workshop is to present critiques of
existing theories as well to offer alternative analyses
of current economic trends. It will be organized around
the following broad themes:
- Macroeconomic Policies of Industrial and Developing countries.
- Recent Pattern of Trade and Financial Flows.
- Industrial Policy, FDI, Deflation and Emerging Crises in Asia, in
the Context of Liberalisation.
The total working time of the workshop is 24 hours
over four working days from the 25th of Sept to 29th
Sept, 2004. The sessions will be in lecture format
of three hours each, twice a day. The lecture series
will conclude with an open panel discussion.

Participants for the workshop will be chosen
from young economists resident in Thailand. Individuals with a strong
economics background, involved in advocacy work with civil society
organizations, NGO's or engaged in policy work with developing country
governments, are also encouraged to apply. Applications should be
accompanied with a recent version of the curriculum vitae and one
letter of recommendation and should be sent to the address given below.
