Alice Amsden: Development Economist (1944-2012)

Alice Amsden, renowned development economist who challenged the mainstream approach and pioneered a new interpretation of development especially in Asian countries, passed away in early March 2012. She was a committed and intrepid scholar, whose lively and irrepressible personality and impressive research lit up the field and inspired many others. She will be sorely missed.
