hosts available research articles in the areas of poverty,
income distribution and labour market issues; as well

Agricultural Market Access
Database
This site maintains a dataset on tariffs, Tariff Rate
Quotas (TRQs) and imports of agricultural products for
a number of WTO Member countries. The database includes
mainly raw data on market access commitments and trade,
as found in WTO members' commitments and in national
publications, at the level of detail and disaggregation
found in the original sources. However, additional reference
data are also provided to enable the user to calculate
derived data such as ad valorem equivalents, or tariff
aggregates for product or commodity categories.
AMAD database is a result of co-operative effort by
Agriculture and AgriFood Canada, EU Commission - Agriculture
Directorate-General, Food and Agriculture Organisation
of the United Nations, Organisation for Economic Co-operation
and Development, The World Bank, United Nations Conference
on Trade and Development, United States Department of
Agriculture - Economic Research Service. Access to data

ATTAC. ATTAC's primary goal is to make the Tobin Tax

The Centre specialises in the production of research

CorpWatch works to support anti-corporate globalization
movements around the world. It provides information

of low- and middle-income America. Check out analyses
of key government data and policy issues; consumer's

EUI
The website of the European University Institute, in
Firenze, Italy, provides useful links to economic resources
available on the Internet. For the non-specialist, the
library CDROM server on the site hosts important macro
data culled from OECD, World Bank, Eurostat and IMF
sources.
EURODAD
A network of NGOs spread over sixteen European countries,
which actively campaigns for the incorporation of poverty
considerations in debt reduction policies such as the
Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative, to
achieve " sustainable" levels of debt. The
website hosts worldwide debt data, debt updates, debt
projections as well as critical analyses on debt-related
issues.
FAIR
If you're someone with an ineluctable appetite for "truth"
as opposed to mainstream media banter, then here's the
website for you. FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting)
is a media watch group, which has been offering well-documented
criticism of media bias and censorship in the US since
1986. The website's Archives section is a great place
to look at if you're interested in alternative interpretations
of popular news events.

Database
FAOSTAT is an on-line and multilingual databases currently
containing over 1 million time-series records covering
international statistics in the following areas of food
and agriculture: Production, Trade, Food Balance Sheets,
Fertilizer and Pesticides, Land Use and Irrigation,
Forest Products, Fishery Products, Population, Agricultural
Machinery, Food Aid Shipments.
Focus
on the Global South
Focus on the Global South is a group of scholar-activists
committed to the generation of ideas and information
resources contextualising local movements of change

divide. The website has terrific resources on anti-globalization

Food First is a member-supported nonprofit think tank
and education-for-action center, which promotes food

Trade Center
This website is jointly maintained by WTO and UNCTAD
and provides wide ranging trade related data on product
and country basis. It also provides data on Trade Performance
Index (TPI) which shows sectoral export performance
and competitiveness of countries. Data on trade simulation
are also available for some countries.
iPD
The Initiative for Policy Dialogue is a global network
of economists and social scientists based in Columbia
University, which provides intellectual resources through
special task forces, country dialogues, training and
research programs for strengthening civic participation
in economic policy-making in countries undergoing stabilization
and structural adjustment.
LSE
The London School of Economics web guide has a great
Social Science Information Gateway link, which connects
to a large variety of social science resources available
on the Internet including statistical data at different
levels of aggregation.
MacroScan
This website builds capacities to analyse mainstream
economic orthodoxy and strengthen an alternative economic
paradigm focusing on distributive justice, economic
sovereignty and the need for state intervention and

SOUTH INSTITUTE
The NSI is an independent research organization, which
tracks Canada's performance in meeting its international

poverty reduction in developing countries. Check out

provide country-specific illustrations of how Canada's
aid and non-aid policies interact with poverty reduction

all over the world. Oneworld Radio is a particularly

Oxfam
The website of the Oxfam International, a confederation
of twelve non-governmental organizations working together
in more than 80 countries to find lasting solutions
to poverty, suffering and injustice. The website contains
links to the individual Oxfams plus regular updates
on the organization's peace initiatives worldwide,
which highlight the mounting human costs of international
conflicts.
PERI
The Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) is an
independent unit at the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst. PERI's mission is to facilitate research, graduate

political economy. The Institute is committed to conducting

SOCIAL SCIENTISTS
The fully-liberalised Turkish economy is beset with
problems. This website run by The Independent Social
Scientists Economics Group includes articles evaluating
programmes and government policies; and the role of
the Bretton Woods Institutions. Currently, the website
is entirely in Turkish.
UC Atlas of Global
Inequality
A project of the Center for Global, International and
Regional Studies (CGIRS) at the University of California,
Santa Cruz, the UC Atlas of Global Inequality explores
the interaction between globalisation and inequality,
and provides online, downloadable maps, graphics and
data. Apart from providing descriptions and data on
the variables used for measuring globalisation, distribution
of global income, income inequality, global connectedness,
etc., the site also provides brief discussions as well
as some useful links and references to the global income
inequality debate, the relationship between growth,
income inequality and well being, etc. All these materials,
which may be of use to researchers and activists, can
be used freely provided they are attributed to the UC
Atlas of Global Inequality.
UNCTAD
Trade Analysis and Information System (TRAINS) Database
This database, maintained by UNCTAD, provides Trade
Control Measures (Tariff, para-tariff and Non-Tariff
Measures) information at tariff line level for 119 countries.
It also covers imports by suppliers at 6-digit level
of the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity
Description and Coding System (HS) covering more than
85% of the world trade. This database is one of the
most comprehensive database on Non-Tariff Measures currently
available.
UNRISD
The official website of the United Nations Institute
for Social Development, an autonomous UN agency engaged
in multidisciplinary research on the social dimensions
of economic development. Available on the website are
quality research papers on issues of pressing importance
to development economists such as the links between
racism and public policy.
WORLD
DEVELOPMENT MOVEMENT
This small organisation based in Britain is at the forefront
of the worldwide movement against GATS or the General
Agreement on Trade in Services and for the cancellation
of Third World Debt. There's a wealth of information
on the issues involved, the ongoing campaigns, particularly
in Britain, and publications.
WORLD-PSI
The website of the Public Services International, an
international confederation of public sector trade unions.
It has links to the associated unions plus great resources
on labor-market discrimination and labor-related issues
in general, particularly child labor and gender discrimination

WATCH
The website functions in the Trade Observatory of the
Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, a research
organization based in Minneapolis, in the US. A useful
site for keeping track of WTO-related developments,
